"Partnering with parents to address the developmental concerns of Macomb County families for their infants and toddlers."

The The MISD Assessment Center provides diagnostic services to respond to the concerns of families regarding the growth and development of their infants and toddlers.

Concerned families of children from Birth to Three years of age can request assessment of their child’s developmental strengths and struggles. This assessment is designed to determine a family’s eligibility for Early On Macomb and eligibility for educational support through Special Education.

The assessment process has been designed to evaluate the child’s overall skill level and to specifically address the family’s developmental concerns. These concerns are evaluated relative to the quality of the skills observed as well as the level of development of the child. Specific concerns are evaluated for their effect to the child’s ability to fully participate in the educational process. Families request developmental assessments with concerns regarding:

    • Hearing

    • Vision

    • Large motor skills

    • Small motor skills

    • Communication and speech skills

    • Social interaction and play skills

    • Thinking and problem solving skills

Families are referred by their physicians, pediatricians, relatives, friends and neighbors, or by finding the services by word of mouth and community outreach.

The assessment process has been designed to evaluate concerns with a team of developmental specialists who observe and evaluate the child with support of family information. Developmental assessments can be scheduled in the family’s home or at the Assessment Center.

Hearing assessments are conducted at the Educational Service Center due to equipment. Outcomes of the assessment might include:
