Literacy

During the school wide literacy theme our class chose the book Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch.  After reading the book we completed activities that focused on identifying the animals in the story.  We first colored pictures of alligators, gorillas, and seals.  Then we matched pictographs of the animals to the ones that we colored.  After becoming familiar with the pictographs we placed them in our sensory bins that are filled with rice and beans.  Students were then asked to dig through the beans to find the pictographs and match them with a larger set of pictographs.

Wade digs through the bin.

Wade matches the pictographs.

Matty looks in the bin.

Matty found an alligator.

      What did you find Lillian?

It was the gorilla.

“Wow…I found one!”

Dustin checks out his pictograph.

It’s the gorilla!!

He says these are the same.

       Jeremy searches for a pictograph.

Amanda works on matching her pictographs.

Steven found a gorilla.

Excellent…he matched all three!
