Daily living skills are at the core of our
classroom program. Activities are designed
to increase meal preparation, self-care,
communication and pre-academic skills while
developing appropriate behavior. This area
of our Functional Curriculum continually
encourages student to be as independent as
possible in all areas of daily living.
Morning Snack
We begin every morning with a snack to
encourage choice making and communication
skills. Students select their desired snack
by pointing to the picture of the food and
drink they would like. During this time we
check for correspondence between the food
item and the picture.

Morning Meeting
Everyday we have Morning Meeting to
encourage communication and socialization.
Students are asked to identify their photo
and place it on the board by the picture of
school. In addition, we put the date on the
calendar and review our daily schedule.

Meal/Snack Preparation
Throughout the week there are multiple
opportunities to participate in meal/snack
preparation. Everyday students are
responsible for setting up their own lunch
and cleaning up when they are finished.
Once a week students help to prepare hot
lunch for the class or for themselves.
Students have the opportunity to select from
a variety of ingredients to make their own
sandwich, pizza, etc. Students also make
the News-2-You recipe once a week for an
afternoon snack.
