Working at Firenze's
Restaurant
Every Tuesday and
Thursday our class goes to Firenze's
Restaurant (on 10 mile, just East of Van
Dyke) to work on developing work skills for
use in the future. Our class goes with
a variety of other classes in the building.
While at the restaurant we try and pair our
students with students from the SXI and SCI
classrooms to create some integration and
cross-categorical opportunities for all of
the students. At Firenze's we have a
variety of jobs including:
-
Filling up ice
containers
-
Putting rolls into
individual baggies
-
Filling "to-go" salad
containers
-
Placing tin foil on "to-go"
plates
-
Filling parmesan cheese
containers and putting one on each table
-
Placing cream and butter on every
table
-
Cleaning jobs: washing and drying
menus, washing booths, etc.
-
Rolling silverware when needed

Josh puts foil on the
"To-Go Plates.".

Greg and Tirus cleaning the
menus
at the restaurant.

Michael and Tony putting
creams and sugars onto the tables.
Grocery Shopping
On Wednesday afternoons our class goes to
Oakridge Market to purchase supplies for Friday's hot lunch.
Before actually going to the store students create a shopping
list of what we need, and what we already have from the recipes.
While at the store students use the shopping list to choose
items. Students then pay for the items at the checkout and
return to school and put grocery items away in the proper
location. Shopping can be a lot of fun!
Bowling
Every Thursday our class is able to go to
Bonanza Bowl and bowl one game of bowling as a class. The
students love our Thursday trip to the bowling alley, and
wouldn't miss it!

Randy gets ready to take a
