-
Mathematics- Each
classroom individualizes math goals according to student need and
credit requirements. Generally, students are working on grade level
content which has been modified to the student's ability levels.
-
Science- Teachers have
split content so that students are exposed to a variety of sciences
while at Bozymowski. The students can also meet credit requirements by
joining another room. The classes offered are; Physical, Earth, Life
and General Science. Students are also required to take a minimum of
10 weeks in Human Growth and Development.
-
Physical Education-
Students have the opportunity to take phys. ed. on a semester basis.
Ninth graders earning high school credit are encouraged to complete
their credit while at Bozymowski.
-
Personal Adjustment-
Teachers focus on developing inter-personal skills and self-esteem
growth with the E.I. students. This is felt to be a vital component of
the curriculum and is included through out the day.
-
Language Arts-
Reading and writing are deficit areas for many of the E.I./L.D.
population at Bozymowski. Two classrooms focus on the research-based
curriculum called Language! to address individual needs. Students
benefiting from this program are mainstreamed in those rooms. Students
who do not require this systematic remedial support follow a standard
English curriculum.
-
Social Studies-
The center programs are initiating a spiral curriculum approach in
social studies. This year all classrooms will be teaching Geography to
all students. Next year the subject will be American History and so
on. The plan is for all students to be exposed to something different
each year.
-
Fine &
Applied Arts- Electives in woodshop, art and computers are
available.
-
Pre-Vocational
Education, also called
S.A.I.L.,- This stands for Student Alternatives to Interactive
Learning and occurs on Fridays. Students can choose from a variety of
activities designed to introduce them to the world of work. Cooking,
sports, art, maintenance, teacher's aide, woodworking and drama are
just some of the in-building options for students. For established
students who want to demonstrate independence, options exist for them
to participate in real businesses like restaurants, hair salons,
health clubs and bowling alleys.
