bullet Consultant for Autism Spectrum Disorders, Physically Impaired and Otherwise Health Impaired

The consultant is available to assist directors, school administrators, direct service staff, students and families. Ongoing services are provided as needed throughout the school year. 
Some of the ways to support students might include, but are not limited to:

  • Observing a student in multiple settings
  • A written report of observations and recommendations as needed
  • Attend team meetings
  • Assist staff with intervention strategy suggestions
  • Facilitate accommodations to the curriculum
  • Assist in the development and tracking of behavioral interventions
  • Parent Education/trainings
  • Peer Education in the schools (disability awareness, information sharing, sensitivity training, etc.

The Consultant for ASD/ PI/ OHI also oversees the leadership team for the Lakeside Regional Collaborative Network (LRCN), the organization of workshop presentations regarding students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and the assignment of certified trainers to said trainings

The mission of the LRCN is to provide Leadership, support and resources in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) by establishing a network designed to provide effective practices, training and information for educators, families and agencies throughout the region.

bullet  PECS Training

The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) in an initial language training package that is used to teach communication skills rapidly to those with limited functional speech. PECS is a unique training program that does not require lengthy prerequisites and promotes communication in a social context that the user initiates. Rather than building to spontaneity, as promoted by many other systems, PECS begins with spontaneous actions. Training in PECS, begins, by teaching a spontaneous request and goes on to teach additional communicative functions, such as responding to questions and commenting.
