Cracker Jackson

Some teachers have been reluctant to participate in the ASK project using Cracker Jackson because it is about domestic abuse. However, those who have participated have found it to be a very meaningful experience for their students.

Cracker got his nickname from his baby sitter to whom he is very close. Cracker discovers that his baby sitter is being abused by her husband. He tries to help her leave the house. Finally, after several nerve racking tries his mother gets involved and helps him and the baby sitter. Kids love this fast moving and meaningful book.

The Specialist:

Adrian works for our local shelter for abuse women. Her message to students is that the abuse is never the students fault and that they should always tell someone.

The Students:

Students in grades five through nine have participated in this project.

Shown above is the portable unit we use for our distance learning programs in some districts. The unit consist of two tv's, a CODEC which transmits the compressed video and the sound equipment. These units were purchase through a Michigan Technology Literacy Grant. We are currently installing distance learning classrooms in all or our high schools
