WebQuest: Election '96

Part 3: Political Expert

Scenario:

This November the people of the United States will elect a President for the next four years. You need to make a decision on how you might vote. What issues will determine how you vote?

The Task:

Your will become an "expert" on one candidate for President of the United States. By the end of two weeks you should be able to answer any questions about your candidate and give an informed opinion on the position of the candidate on any issue. The candidate you choose does not need to be the one you currently support for election.

You should meet with your teacher during the first week to decide how you will share with others what you have learned. This could vary from a report to an "unofficial web site.'

Analyze public appearances by our candidate? What is his/her style? Does s/he take a stand on the issues? What is the audience reaction? Does s/he have good presentation skills?

Have campaign tactics changed as the campaign has progressed?

Who is contributing money or time to the candidate?

How do newspaper and television reports vary from your information on the candidate?

If he/she currently holds a political office does their voting record match their stand on the issues?

How much is the campaign costing?
