Podcasting Software

Recording Software
Windows and Macintosh - You can download Audacity which is free open source software. If you decide to use Audacity you must also download and install the LAME.dll (Windows) or the Lame MP3 encoder (Macintosh). The LAME files allow you to export your recording in MP# format. See our set up page for more

Macintosh users can use Garage Band. The latest version of Garage Band has new Podcasting features built in to it. It includes royalty free music.

Music
My favorite site for downloading music for podcasts is Freeplay Music. I like Freeplay Music because they allow you to download short 10 second clips of audio. That is all you need for introductory and closing music.

Rights from Freeplay Music:

Then Freeplay Music´s compositions and recordings may be used (broadcast, synchronized and/or copied) without a fee. These reproduction rights, known as Master Recording and Synchronization rights, are absolutely FREE and are granted in perpetuity, provided a Freeplay Music is accorded appropriate screen credit as follows, with size and placement on a most favored nations basis with all other music providers: "Music Provided By www.freeplaymusic.com". In addition, provided the first broadcast appears on a U.S. National Network Broadcast (non Cable), then, Videocassette/DVD Master Recording and Synchronization rights fees are also FREE.
