In Grounds and Garden
Class students learn work skills related to the
safe use of power
lawn equipment and hand tools such as shovels, rakes, clippers and
weeders. Students help mow the lawn around
the building, weed,
and care for trees and flower beds around
the grounds. With our classmates in the
Greenhouse we help maintain a vegetable
garden in the summer.
Safety, maintenance of
equipment and basic small engine service are
also part of our program in Grounds and
Garden. We are always working to be
environmentally-friendly. We compost all
grass clippings and garden waste to use in
future garden spaces. We also take care of
all of the recycling of cans, plastic,
metal, glass and paper in the building.
The outdoors is our most important
classroom so we try to get outside every
day. But, when the weather is bad, we have
several inside jobs to do. In addition to
our recycling jobs, we work with cement to
create several concrete products. We produce
classic 18" square concrete patio blocks and
decorative cement garden urns. And, in the
past year we have added
decorative patio stones and customized markers to our cement
product line.
