bullet  Lutz School Undergoes a Much Needed Expansion

When we came back to school in January 2008, it was clear things were changing at Lutz School.  The grounds had been invaded by huge machinery, trucks and workmen. It was the start of the much-anticipated renovation and expansion of the school.

The building has been experiencing growing pains for a few years now. Our enrollment is currently at it's highest level in the history of the school.  The expansion will add classrooms and make the gym/fitness area larger. It will also make room for a larger student lunchroom and some conference rooms for meetings and small group instruction.  The main entrance and office area will also be expanded. Soon, the building will have a whole new look!

As 2008 draws to a close, the work is nearly complete.  The pictures below show how the work has progressed.

February and March Progress

April Progress

May Progress

June Progress

July Progress

Finishing up!

January:  The lawn on the west side of the building was removed and the ground leveled to prepare for the classroom addition.

Workers removed sidewalks and trees behind the gym to prepare for the expansion.

Behind the construction fence in front, the foundation is being built.

Workers put up a temporary wall inside the gym....and then they tore off the whole back wall!!

February and March: The footings were dug and poured...

...and the walls began to rise in front, and...

...along side the existing building.
April: Workers are building a front entrance to the new classroom section of the school.

A huge crane lifts roof sections onto the new classroom area.

The front of the new classroom building is taking shape...

...and so is the gym addition and fitness room!!

May: Windows, doors and concrete are installed. The exterior is almost complete.

The back of the gym, before....

And after...
June. Now work is moving forward inside the commons area...
...and the gym addition, including the new fitness room.
July: The rooms are now ready, just waiting for students and teachers to arrive!
Windows!
With the new classrooms in use, the old commons area is being gutted to make way for more improvements.

The orange barrels have moved!  Now they are around the front door area where work has started on the new entry.
In 2009, the construction comes to an end when our new front doors open!
The old commons has become our new lunchroom. It is bright and roomy!
The renovated gym has much more room and lots of light.
Mr Helfer is still hard at work, but now he has a bigger, brighter office!

We even have a new "Wildcat" sign for the gym.

All Lutz Students are happy to have such a nice school.

Thanks to our school board and the whole community for making this possible!
