Weekly Schedule

Welcome to Room 113!

Teacher:  Dana Elkins        Paraprofessionals:  Debbie Kalfas & Joyce Donelson

Hello and Welcome to SCI 3!!

My name is Dana Elkins and I am your student’s classroom teacher.  We also have two paraprofessionals in our room, Debbie Kalfas and Joyce Donelson.  These ladies are with us five days a week, all day long so that we may successfully work on student goals.

Classroom activities vary from day to day, but the general routine will remain the same.

We will be working on the following daily:

Circle Time:  Students identify other classmates by photograph; attempt to recognize themselves-“me or I”;  and strive to distinguish between being “at Home or “at school”.

Circle time also develops “turn taking” skills.  Students are asked to choose a picture of another classmate and give that picture to the appropriate student.

Prevocational Skills:  Each day we will work on tasks such as matching, sorting, repetition, hand over hand skills, and classroom jobs such as passing out placemats or getting milk.  These tasks also meet our fine motor sensory skills as well as improve good hand eye coordination.

Communication:  Each child is encouraged to increase expressive and receptive communication skills.  We use various modes, such as sign language, verbal speech, general verbalizations, pictures, and other communication devises.  Students are encouraged to respond and request using one of these modes.

There are many other skills and activities we work on in the classroom.  These only outline our main routine as a whole.

Don’t forget about gym, swimming, speech, occupational and physical therapy among others!!!!!!
