WHEN Can An ER Be Done?

Some districts identify evaluation review as one of the IEPT purposes at the Annual Review IEPT a year before the Redetermination IEPT is due. This is time-efficient since both an evaluation review and an IEPT require the same participants.

However, IDEA specifically states that an evaluation review does not have to be a meeting. [30 CFR §300. 340.533(2)(b)] Thus, some districts appoint an evaluation review coordinator to gather input from all required participants including parents, to develop the evaluation review. The parents consenting signature is required for this plan to be completed and available to the Redetermination IEPT.

If evaluation review participants determine that additional evaluations are needed, it is recommended that evaluations be done close to the IEPT meeting that will use the information to make an eligibility re-determination.
