Special Education Welcomes You

The MISD's 21 school districts serve a total of approximately 135,000 students and even more in Public School Academies.  Nearly 20,000 of these students are challenged by needs that make them eligible for special education. These needs arise from physical, mental or emotional handicaps making it difficult for the students to keep up with their peers.  To meet some of our Special Children, click here.

Because the needs of  the handicapped students are different and frequently require special attention, materials or equipment, we call our assistance for these students Special Education Services.  The MISD, local districts and public school academies in Macomb County employ over 1500 special education professionals who deliver these special education services.

The MISD takes pride in its ability to bring the best in education to students with such diverse needs. Services range from assistance to students within their own district  classrooms to the operation of special schools and programs.  This  assistance is far reaching and even extends to students who cannot attend school.
