Overview |
Our department assists special education providers and
consumers.
We help school districts understand and manage their State and Federally
mandated tasks. We help families access and understand the services they need for students with disabilities. We
train parents and local district administrators in
special education requirements and procedures.

We provide and update the
procedures that local school
districts, Public School Academies
and Other educational entities
follow to access MISD-provided
services.
|
|
|
We make available to the Macomb
Educational Community the Federal
Special Education Rules, as well as
the Michigan Rules, Regulations and
Guidelines by which we serves
students with special needs and
their parents.

|
|
We, and the Macomb County
Association of Administrators of Special Education (MCAASE) develop
forms/procedures required by current Special Education Rules/Regulations.
|
|
|
We develop and maintain a Registry System of
required information on special education students served by Macomb
Intermediate School Districts. This system is used for State and
Federal Student Counts and for daily Special Education Program
Management.

|
|
We collect, distribute and audit Federal Individuals with
Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) funds. We assist districts
in their use of this web-based system.

We link to and provide support to the
Macomb Intermediate
School District Parent Advisory Committee.
|
|
|
We develop and revise a Macomb Special
Education
Mandatory Plan describing the programs and services provided by the
MISD and local school districts.
|

|
We collect, manage and audit
State-required full, temporary and
emergency Approvals, Authorizations,
Endorsements, Certificates, Permits
and Licenses of Professional and
Substitute Special Education
Personnel. In this task, we
collaboration with district Special
Education and Personnel Offices,
Universities and Michigan Licensing
Departments.

We support web-based service-tracking sites used by district professionals who provide health services to Medicaid
eligible students.
|
|
|
We investigate and mediate complaints about
alleged non-compliance with the rules and
regulations governing the delivery
of special education services. |

|
We support the Michigan's Continuous
Improvement Monitoring System
(CIMS). We assist districts &
public school academies in their
ongoing Service Provider Self Review
(SPSR). We also help our
constituents develop improvement
plans when appropriate.

|
We provide statistics to the State of Michigan
about students with
disabilities in Macomb Intermediate School Districts. The
Michigan Compliance Information System (MICIS) creates Data
Portrait Reports of these statistics for Federal, State and
public reports. |
|
|
We conduct telephone and mail surveys of students who have left
special education services and use the data for program improvement.
