Michigan Content Standards and Benchmarks 
Make sure your social studies curriculum is in alignment with the Michigan Curriculum Framework.  No new social studies benchmarks have been added from the original 1996 version.  http://www.michigan.gov/documents/MichiganCurriculumFramework_8172_7.pdf 

Released MEAP Items  
Schools are allowed to use MEAP Released Items for instructional or practice purposes. Items (with answers) have been available since 1999.

MI CLiMB  
MIClimb is a curriculum resource for the arts, English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.  Each benchmark has been explained with a clarification statement, an instructional example, and assessment example, and resources related to the benchmark.  http://www.miclimb.net 

SCoPE (The Sample Curriculum and Plans for Education
It provides units of study clearly linked to Michigan's content standards, benchmarks and statewide assessments.  http://www.michigan.gov/scope 

Glossary of Social Studies Terms (Includes many MEAP vocabulary)
This glossary is a tool to help teachers understand the language of social studies.  The 35 page document is intended for teacher use only and contains many more terms and concepts than we expect our K-12 students to master. Many of the technical social studies terms from the Michigan Curriculum Framework benchmarks can be found in the glossary.  http://www.michigan.gov/documents/10-02Glossary_48851_7.pdf

Social Studies Tool Kits 
The Michigan Council for the Social Studies still has their Social Studies Tool Kits available for sale.  The Tool Kit is a flip chart format of the Social Studies content standards and benchmarks, with related resources to support each strand. They are available for $4.00 each by contacting the MCSS Office at 734.975.2811 or ddufek@ucia2.com or fax 734.677.2407.

Core Democratic Values 
A series of 9 Core Democratic Values posters (two values per poster) with an accompanying discussion guide are also available from MCSS for $3.00 per set.  This series was originally published by the Detroit News Newspapers in Education Program and Farmers Insurance Group.  Contact the MCSS Office.

Michigan History Themes and Five Themes of Geography
A double-sided poster with Michigan History Themes on one side and the Five Themes of Geography on the other side is also available from the MCSS Office for $1.00 per poster.

History Themes Timeline Posters
Posters that reflect the people and events of the History Themes Project are available through the Kent Intermediate School District.  Each poster is printed on 8 1/2" X 11" heavy card stock, including:  appropriate illustration, year of event, summary of event, and history theme and its logo.  Sets are in sets for grades 4, 5, 8, and 9/10/11.  Each set is $25 (price includes shipping and handling).  To order, contact:  Kent ISD, 2930 Knapp NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525, Attn:  Arlene Langford.

K-12 Financial Literacy Resource Guide
Section 1165 of PA 111 required the Michigan Department of Education to develop and make available to schools one or more model programs for youth financial education.  Adopted programs were required to incorporate financial education throughout the curriculum for grades K to 12 and be based on the concept of achieving financial literacy through the teaching of personal financial management skills and the basic principles involved with earning, spending, saving, borrowing and investing.  While some of the materials will cost you to purchase them, other of equally high quality are free of charge.  For a copy of this guide, go to:  http://www.michigan.gov/documents/Financial_Literacy_information_list_85258_7.doc
