Michigan Law (Public Act
101 of 2007) requires that by July 1, 2008, Macomb
Intermediate School District must establish a common
school calendar for use by its constituent districts and
the MISD.
The “common calendar”:
- establishes the winter and spring breaks when
school will not be in session;
- sets those two breaks for the next five years;
and,
- begins with the 2008-2009 school year.
With input from the local district superintendents,
employee and referent groups a common calendar was
approved by the Macomb Intermediate School District
Board of Education on March 19, 2008.
In addition to setting the required breaks,
recommendations were also made regarding professional
development (non-student) days, and midwinter break.
Based on individual needs, local districts may
add additional non-work days to the calendar.
