The list sorts by proximity and will also display a mapping feature to view the location. You can print the list or view details for a specific site and print those.

SITUATION:  A pregnant or post-partum female needs nutrition services or food supplements

 

Nutrition education and supplemental food debit card for low-income pregnant females, new mothers, and children under age 5 who have medical or nutritional needs.  Participants receive a Bridge Debit Card to purchase healthy food. Nutrition education, referrals, a health assessment, and help with breast-feeding is also available. Available from Women, Infants and Children (WIC) at:

Free in-home or small group instruction on basic nutrition, food buying and preparation skills, meal planning and budgeting. Available from the MSU Extension - Expanded Food Nutrition Educational Program (EFNEP), (586) 469- 6432.

 

Emergency Food is available through various food pantries in Macomb County. For the location of a food pantry near you, call 2-1-1.

 

Congregate Meal sites are available around Macomb County, for more information, call, (586) 469-5228.

 

Home-delivered meals ("Meals on Wheels") are available for seniors unable to leave their home. For more information, call (586) 469-5228.

 

Senior Project FRESH coupons (for fresh fruits and vegetables) are available from Office of Senior Services, (586) 469-6313.

 

Low-income persons (200% of poverty guidelines) are eligible for a once-a-month distribution of staple food items (pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, sometimes meat products - depending on what available from the Federal government).  A number of different sites throughout the county are pick-up sites.  Available from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) through Macomb County Community Services Agency.  Once registered they pick up food from one of the 26 sites they will be assigned to.  Qualified persons must first register through a Community Action Center.

Some of the sites do emergency food distribution and the once a month TEFAP distribution.  Needy persons may be eligible to receive both emergency food (no income restrictions - only the need for food and be a Macomb County resident and TEFAP.
