Balanced Assessment in the ELA Classroom

Event Description

Teachers assess student learning in many ways, and for different purposes. This session asks participants to take a critical look at the match between standards, instruction and assessment.  Using Fisher and Frey’s book Developing Assessment-Capable Visible Learners as a guide, we will examine ways to maximize the time we spend interpreting and acting on assessment data. Participants can expect to leave with ideas about how to:

· begin to understand how to match assessment tasks to learning targets
· actively involve students in the assessment process
· incorporate student goal-setting and progress-monitoring
· use high-quality feedback to improve the cycle of instruction and assessment
