Introduction
The travel industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the
United States. Travel agents spend a large part of their day making airline
reservations for their clients. The systems they use are very much the same
as some systems available on the internet. This exercise is developed to
help you become familiar with these systems and this process.
The Task
Congratulations! You've been hired by the XYZ travel agency in Warren,
MI as a travel agent. Today you are assigned to the air reservations desk.
Several customers called during the morning and you need to help them with
their travel plans.
1 - Mr. Sam Jones of General Motors Design Studio, 12543 VanDyke, Warren,
MI 48095 must get to Chicago as fast as possible. He doesn't care how much
it costs because it's very important that he get there today for an early
morning meeting tomorrow. He would like to return to Detroit the day after
tomorrow, anytime is OK. As soon as you have made his reservations contact
him either on email @ sjones@aol.com , at home (248) 756-9712, or at his
office (810) 845-3000. He will charge his tickets to his Visa card # 1286-7035-3340-0788
exp 10/01.
2. - Linda Schmidt called about airline reservations for her honeymoon
next spring. She and Tom Orlando are being married on Saturday June 13.
They would like to fly to Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday June 14 any time after
noon. They plan to stay for 2 weeks and will return Saturday June 26. They
are looking for the most economical flight you can find for them. Linda
can be reached at her email address, 777953.6787@CompuServe.com or her home
(810) 786-1100. She is usually available since she works from home at her
business,"Linda's Computer Repair Service". Linda's Northwest
frequent flyer # is 975-854-432. Tom's is 659-778-432.
3. Your best friend's brother, John Gregg, is graduating from high school
this year. He and a buddy, Dan Brown, would like to go to Orlando, FL after
graduation. They could leave anytime after June 1 and would like stay one
week. They want you to find them the least expensive airfare available.

He does not have a credit card. They are both vegetarians.

The Process
1. Go to any one of the Web Resources listed above and make reservations
for your client.
2. Each site will ask you for your name and a secret code. Use a
secret word that will be easy for you to remember such as your middle name.
3. Find a ticket for your client that meets his/her requirments.
4. Fill in and print out the itinerary for your clients. The itinerary
is found in the web sites.

Check the resources available if you need airport codes.
Use your computer's back arrow button to return to your
lesson from the web pages.
Conclusion
There are hundreds of air fares for any destination.
That is why it is important that you as a travel agent need to know as much
as possible about your clients in order to give them the best service possible.
Evaluation
Part one - 50% Your itinerary will be graded according to the accuracy
and completeness of your information.
Part two - 50% Answer the following questions on the word processing
program on your computer.
1. List three (3) suggestions you would give to your clients that might
save them money on their air travel.
2. List what you learned by completing this lesson.
3. List any concerns, problems, or questions you have about planning
air travel.
