Introduction

You are a guest archaeologist from the United States. You have been invited to join a team of international archaeologists in unearthing Emperor Qin{Chin} Shi Huang's Terracotta Army and tomb on the slopes of Li Mountain in China.

Emperor Qin Shi Huang was the self-appointed Chinese Emperor beginning in 221 B.C.. He was a very powerful leader. He had thousands of laborers work for 36 years to complete his clay army to serve him after death.


The Task

Your task for this activity is to read and review the internet sites specified below to answer the following questions and complete the summary.

1) How did Emperor Qin come into power?

2) Was he a good leader or a poor leader? Be able to back up your answer with facts.

3) Why was the Great Wall of China built?

4) Why did Emperor Qin have his clay army made?

5) What were some of the clay figures found in his tomb?

6) Summarize, using your answers to the above questions, in one or two paragraphs, what you learned from this activity.
