Introduction

You will be working on a Service Learning Project of your choice in this class. This Webquest lesson will serve as an introduction to the concept of Service Learning. You will be working in groups to research basic information on Service Learning. Your groups will use the internet to obtain this information and then bring it back to the whole class. We will use the ideas you obtain to create your project ideas.

The Task

Students will be divided into groups of 4-5. The groups will then go to the designated spot on the internet and read the information required. Each group will complete the assignment required for their group and then report their results to the entire class.

Resources

Each group will use the designated resource listed for their group below.

The Process

Group #1
List and describe 2 service learning activities students are involved in at Brandt Middle School

Group #2
List 4 needs of adolescents and write how Service Learning activities can meet these needs.

Group #3
Choose 3 service learning activities done by middle school students and write a brief summary to share with the class.

Learning Advice

Everyone in your group should be familiar with the internet information assigned. Choose a recorder to complete the assignment on paper and a reporter to share the information with the class.

Conclusion

After this webquest lesson and classroom sharing the class should be familiar with Service Learning activities in other parts of the United States. Students should also have an idea of why Service Learning is a way to enhance learning and make communities a better way to live.
