You are a U.S. meteorologist (weatherperson) explaining hurricanes, tornadoes and cyclones on television. Create a chart for display telling the information listed under The Task. You will be video taped after completion of your research and chart.
Please find the following information:
1. How do hurricanes, tornadoes and cyclones occur? What conditions must be met for these to occur?
2. In what parts in and around the U.SA might these occur?
3. Are there special times of the year in which these occur?
4. What should you do if you are in an area where one of these is forecasted/announced on media?
5. Check this weeks weather and report if any of these weather phenomena are present or expected.
.
Follow the steps listed below to complete your assignment.
Do not copy all the information from your sites. Instead, make a three column list with hurricanes, tornadoes, and cyclones at the top and your five questions along the side margin. Fill in information as you find it. On the back of your notes, list other interesting facts you find that you can include in your presentation. Your chart will be made back in your classroom after you have finished your research.
In this lesson you should have learned about three storm phenomena found in the U.S.A. You should know what conditions cause these storms and what to do to protect yourself and others in case this type of storm occurs in your area. Also you should have extended your understanding of how to read a weather map. Do you think it is easy or difficult to predict these storms and where they will occur? Why do you think prediction of these types of storms would be important? Finally, what sources did you find that would be of help to you to predict upcoming weather?
