Step 1 - Forming a Group
| Lesson Study groups can be formed at the school, district, or state level.
In whichever iteration, administrative bodies must understand and support the
Lesson Study process if a group is to be successful. |

Module 1: Welcome to Lesson
Study |
Lesson Study groups typically consist of four to six educators, at least
some of whom represent adjacent grades. This helps ensure that the Lesson
Study is developed in a larger context, consistent with longer-term student
goals. Another critical role on the Lesson Study team is that of the
“knowledgeable other”, a professional outside the school who has subject
matter expertise and, preferably, Lesson Study experience. Typically, the
knowledgeable other role is filled by a university professor, district
curriculum specialist or a regional specialist.
Lesson Study sessions may be held during the school day with the assistance
of substitute teachers or in after school sessions. Some groups schedule
shorter, more frequent lesson study sessions; others schedule longer sessions
on a monthly or quarterly basis. In any case, it is important to develop and
adhere to a schedule that is supported administratively and respected by the
team. |
