Some
IEPT members are required, some are optional.
Participants in an IEPT meeting shall, at a minimum, include the following:
- Parents must be invited as active participants in the meeting.
- The student should be invited, if appropriate.
- A representative of the school district, other than the student's teacher, who is qualified to provide or supervise the provision of special education (i.e., principal, special education director, special education teacher.)
- The student's teacher or, if the student is not previously enrolled, a teacher who is appropriate for the student's age and ability. If the child is enrolled in regular education, at least one of the participants must be a regular full-time teacher to whom the student is assigned.
- A member of the IEP team who can explain the instructional implications of evaluation results.
- The parent or school district may invite other participants.
The IEP must be reviewed annually, and may be revised at any time it appears a change may be needed.
The IEPT meeting shall be held at a mutually agreed upon time and place. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you have the right and responsibility to provide input in other ways.
You, as a parent, are a member of the IEPT and have a right to be involved in any decision made about your child's educational program. As a committee member, you are assured that no one person is acting alone to develop and decide on the school services for your child.
