(NTA) Virtual K-1 Book Study: No More Teaching A Letter a Week

October 20, 2022 - 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Event Description

Target Audience: New Teachers (1-3 years)

Presenter(s): JoAnn Elkin

Description:

Attention: This workshop has been made virtual. Please do NOT arrive at the MISD for this workshop. Participants will be sent a book prior to the start of this workshop.

In this workshop, we will be studying the work of early literacy researchers, Dr. William Teale and Rebecca McKay, as they help us to understand that alphabet knowledge goes beyond just letter recognition. Grasping the principals shows us how to use meaningful practices to inspire children to create an identity through print.

Please Note: Most sessions are being planned as face-to-face, or a hybrid offerings. If needed, we are also planning fully remote professional learning sessions. If sessions are being offered remotely, the dates and times are subject to change.

Registering for this workshop automatically enrolls you in the 2022-23 Macomb New Teacher Academy.

First, second, and third year teachers are welcome to attend as many 2022-23 New Teacher Academy workshops as they choose for a yearly fee of $150.00. In this spring of 2023, Macomb County districts will be billed $150.00 per teacher participating in the Academy. Please check with your district regarding payment of this fee (whether you are responsible for payment).

Any no shows/late cancelations will be charged $15.00 per session. Please cancel in writing no later than 7 days prior to the workshop start date. Please email any cancellations to Alex Bryan, abryan@misd.net.

No phone cancellations are permitted.

The NTA will be providing a light meal before each afternoon workshop. In case of special dietary needs, participants should provide their own meals. Adjustments will not be made in menu selections or registration fees.

This workshop is not eligible for Professional Development Funds.
