ELA Instructional Practices to prepare Students for the PSAT/SAT

November 20, 2019 - 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Event Description

Target Audience: ELA Teachers Grades 6-12

Do you want to prepare your students for the reading and writing demands of the PSAT/SAT without it feeling like 'test prep'? Participants will identify which skills are assessed on the SAT test, and to which Michigan ELA standards they connect. We will examine a variety of instructional approaches to incorporate into regular teaching to help students meet curricular standards while preparing for the SAT at the same time. We will explore strategies to help students succeed with both the Evidence Based Reading and Writing (ERW) portion, as well as the SAT essay. Educators will learn how to access supportive resources from the College Board, the state and county that they can incorporate into their daily lessons. Participants will have time at the end of the day to create a plan to implement these new strategies throughout the year. Attendees should plan to have access to their current curriculum and pacing guides.
