Overcoming the Achievement Trap Gap – Dine and Learn

October 8, 2019 - 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Event Description

Target Audience: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Curriculum Directors, Special Education Directors, Building Administrators, Teacher Leaders, and Leadership Teams.

In this evening dine and learn session, Dr. Muhammad will discuss how we can ensure learning equality in every classroom so that factors such as economic standing and race don’t play a role in determining students’ achievement. We will examine predominant mindsets that contradict school missions to promote equal academic opportunities and explore strategies for adopting a new mindset that frees educators and students from cultural attitudes that reinforce negative academic performance expectations.

Participants will:

  • Delve into the factors that impact achievement inequality
  • Consider the importance of mindsets and frameworks related to the achievement gap, including how impartiality is missing from struggling students’ school experiences, especially for poor and minority students
  • Examine the indicators that can help you assess whether your school has fostered the values of responsibility, advocacy, and equality

Presenter: Dr. Anthony Muhammad
