(NTA) The Vulnerable Child: Meeting the Needs of the Whole Child

Target Audience: New Teachers (1-3 years)

*NEW TEACHER ACADEMY PARTICIPANTS: Registering for this workshop automatically enrolls you in the 2019-20 Macomb New Teacher Academy. First, second, and third year teachers are welcome to attend as many 2019-20 Academy workshops as they choose for a yearly fee of $125.00. In the spring of 2020, Macomb County districts will be billed $125.00 per teacher participating in the Academy. Please check with your district regarding payment of this fee (whether you are responsible for payment). PLEASE NOTE (New Teacher Academy Participants): We cannot accept credit cards for payment.

In this session teachers will learn about theWSCC (Whole School,Whole Community,Whole Child) model that is a part of the Michigan Department of Education ESSA plan. Instruction will include the chronic health conditions affecting 30% of all students, and how to manage these conditions in the school setting. Finally, teachers will learn about the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. This is a federal law that supports the educational stability of homeless youth. Learn how to identify homeless youth that may be "hidden in plain sight." Presenters: Mary Lebioda & Joyce Arbaugh
