Event Description

Students who make threats of violence - whether directed at themselves or others - often exhibit similar underlying behaviors and risk factors.  Both suicide and homicide can be seen as extreme, maladaptive coping mechanisms occurring at the end of an identifiable pathway of escalation.  Effective safety assessments must consider the potential for both types of violence.  This workshop will discuss the similarities and differences between these protocols and participants will learn how to conduct a suicide screener and a more comprehensive suicide safety assessment.  The workshop will then conclude with participants working through a case study to apply skills learned in this workshop and prior BTAM training.
