Target Audience: 6-12th grade classroom teachers of all content areas, instructional coaches, or administrators who want to learn about improving tier 1 literacy outcomes for ALL secondary students
NOTE: This session is included for participants in the MISD Disciplinary Literacy Network - no need to register separately
Session Description:
Join MISD content consultants to learn about Michigan's Disciplinary Literacy resources, including the MAISA GELN Schoolwide Essential Practices in Disciplinary Literacy and Classroom Instructional Practices in Disciplinary Literacy Instruction.
Participants will focus on answering the following questions:
- What is disciplinary literacy?
- How is a disciplinary literacy frame similar to or different from our current model for literacy instruction?
- How can school district or building-level systems support strong literacy learning in every class?
- What can it look, feel and sound like to teach literacy in every subject, including the four core content areas AND beyond the core?
- How might our team get started in taking on the shift to disciplinary literacy instruction?
