    Formative Assessment is a process used during instruction that provides actionable feedback and results in better teaching and learning outcomes. Course Objectives: - To provide teachers with an understanding that formative assessment is a process of gathering evidence about what students know and understand, their misconceptions, and their incomplete knowledge about concepts in mathematics. - To provide teachers with strategies that inform teaching and learning and shape their instructional decisions “in the moment” and in short and long term classroom planning. - To provide teachers with strategies for encouraging greater involvement of students.

The online course is modeled after the EMATHS 8-day face-to-face workshop titled “Implementing the Algebra I Units”. A facilitator will be assigned to each group of 8-12 participants taking the course online. Participation in the course includes watching video of actual presentations by instructors and teacher participants, downloading and completing activities, uploading completed files to facilitator, reflecting on instructional practices, making contributions to blog discussions, researching the web, using TI-Nspire technology and software, interacting with fellow teachers, and more. Course requires use of TI-Nspire handheld technology.
