June 16, 2025 - 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Event Description
The MISD is excited to host Cheryl Abla, M.Ed., senior consultant at McREL International, where she supports
educators across the U.S. and internationally in creating engaging classroom experiences that enhance student learning and joy.
With over 20 years of teaching experience in grades 1-12, she has worked with thousands of teachers at McREL to implement evidence-based practices that benefit all students, including multilingual learners and those with learning differences.
Cheryl is co-author of The New Classroom Instruction That Works and Tools for Classroom Instruction that Works.
Classroom Instruction That Works with English Language Learners is designed to help classroom teachers learn ways to help English language learners (ELs) or anyone in need of language development be actively engaged in general education classrooms.
This professional learning session examines the nine categories of research-based instructional strategies first identified in Classroom Instruction That Works (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock, 2001) through a filter of five stages of language acquisition. This training is a great compliment to the original Classroom Instruction that Works!
